Posted under Free for All UK & Heath Ledger & Queen Elizabeth II & Nicole Kidman & Russell Crowe & cate blanchet & geoffrey rush
For years now the Brits have been trying to lick the Aussie’s at just about anything they can, rugby, cricket, football, The Oscars, and now they really can lick the backsides of four of Australia’s biggest movie stars as the big country down under releases four new stamps.
With thousands of Brits visiting their Antipodean relatives on the other side of the world every year, there will be plenty of opportunities for them to get their tongues around a little bit of Oz!

Cate Blanchett, Russell Crowe, Nicole Kidman and Geoffrey Rush have all been named the 2009 Australia Post Australian Legends and will appear on a set of 8 stamps.
On his movie stamp, Crowe portrays gladiator Maximus from Gladiator, Blanchett features as Elizabeth I in Elizabeth, Kidman stars as Satine from Moulin Rouge and Rush as piano maestro David Helfgott in Shine. Geoffrey Rush will be presented with his 24-carat gold replica stamps at the Australia Day lunch at Crown today.
Although Crowe was actually born and raised in Wellington, New Zealand, he claimed Aussie citizenship in 2006.

Prior to the move 12 years ago to place recognized figures in Australia on their stamps, Queen Elizabeth II was the only face seen on the postage stamp.
Shame they couldn’t have found somewhere to stick Heath Ledger!
