Will That Be All M’am? Helen Mirren Takes on a New Role!

At 63, Helen Mirren holds the enviable accolade of having beaten Pirates of the Caribbean star Keria Knightley and Simon Le Bon’s model wife, Yasmin Le Bon to an award at the Inspiration for Women ceremony in London last night.
But Helen’s choice of outfit for the event left her looking more like a member of the catering staff than a celebrity. The long black dress and jacket she had chosen was overshadowed by the lacey panel that hung from under the bust line on the dress, resembling an apron.

Elton John is Belle of the Ball

From one English queen on the red carpet, Helen Mirren, to one old queen at his very own after Oscars party. Elton John, now 60, and boyfriend David Furnish, took over the opulent post normally held by Vanity Fair, as they stood down this year, leaving the veteran song writer and piano player to be the centre of attention at his 16th annual viewing dinner and after-party benefiting the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Highlights and Lowlights of the 80th Academy Awards 2008

Like him or dislike him Jon Stewart certainly brings a light, easy going feeling to what could have been (and was described by Simon Cowell) a stuffy and snobby evening and so he should, he’s had two years to get it right!

Once again the fancy evening dresses, the tearful, nose sniffing speeches and the outstanding performances all came together despite a doubtful 5 month period during which time the Hollywood writer’s and their unions battled out a conclusion to their strike which had already affect the Golden Globes.

Was it the Oscars or the Brits?

Daniel Day Lewis, Tilda Swinton, Glen Hansard, Atonement, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, The Golden Compass….the list of British achievements at the Academy Awards appeared to be never ending.

Best musical score went to Atonement a British movie starring Keira Knightley, Saoirse Ronan and James McAvoy while the best music song went to Falling Slowly from the movie Once. Glen Hansard’s award was delivered by the scruffy and unkempt Colin Farrell.
