It wasn’t long ago that I was a frog just like you!

Its not exactly the stuff of Disney fairytales, a bad tempered prince demanding the death of all the furry little friends of Snow White! But that’s the royal command coming from Britain’s Prince Charles as he urges landowners throughout the kingdom to slay all the wild, marauding, tree felling, dangerous, pillaging and plundering grey squirrels.

The Prince, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II, is acting on information gathered in a study by Britain’s Country Land and Business Association (CLA), who state that grey squirrels damage broadleaved trees by nibbling the inner bark, making it hard for owners of forests and woodland to grow the hardwoods required for financial viability.

Like many unwanted visitors to England’s green and pleasant land, the grey squirrel was introduced as a foreign immigrant to the UK at the start of the 20th century, and now, as there should be with many other unwanted visitors, there is a royal order to banish the vermin from our shores!

But, with all that said, and albeit a great idea that banishing many unwanted visitors to the British Isles maybe a step in the right direction, we wonder how Prince Charles would feel if the same ruling were applied to frogs.

After all, didn’t Princess Diana once kiss one??????

But maybe Charlie hasn’t considered just how fond of, and important, the grey squirrel has become to the British public over the past 2 centuries. So here’s a quick reminder before he signs the death warrant.
