Heath Ledger made a huge impact on the movie business while he was alive and well, but he could only have imagined how well his last movie would be received had he lived to see it.

Completing its fourth consecutive week at the top of the box office hits, The Dark Knight has grossed a total or $441.5 million.

This now places the Batman movie in third position in the all time best sellers coming second to Star Wars with $461 million and third to Leonardo DiCaprio’s Titanic with $601 million.

After last weeks takings at the box office The Dark Knight moved up four spots on the all-time list, as it scurried quickly past Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest which grossed $423 million, Star Wars: Episode I—The Phantom Menace, taking $431 million, E.T. grossing $435 million and the big green guy, Shrek 2 bringing in $441.2 million.

If the movie starring Christian Bale as Batman continues at this rate it will move into second position, overtaking the original Star Wars, by the end of this weeks takings!

If it continues to bring in audiences, the next box office challenge will be to break Titanic‘s $601 million.
